using our products outdoors

No warranty / guarantee from us when using our products outdoors. Why?

Without care, our decorative palms, which are equipped with real, preserved palm fronds, will last indefinitely in protected rooms, but not outdoors. We also rent out our palms for open air festivals, street parties etc. However, this is only temporary and if no warnings of weather extremes are heard in advance.

Rain and palm leaves

When it rains, the palm fronds not only get wet, but also become heavier. Due to this increase in weight the palm fronds hang down sadly very quickly (blush => sad). This rapid increase in weight due to rainwater, especially in combination with wind, the palm fronds do not always withstand and in the worst case simply bend off.

Sun and palm leaves

Due to the sunlight our real leaf preserved palm fronds fade after some time. This process depends on the intensity and duration of the sunlight.
Living palms permanently renew their own natural protective layer against UV light. Like all other plants, they obtain the energy required for this process through photosynthesis. Since photosynthesis no longer takes place in our preserved palm fronds, this protective layer cannot be renewed.

For this reason the process of fading of the palm fronds depends on the individual location of our real leaf decopalms and cannot be estimated by us.

Wind and artificial palm trees

Outside our palms are exposed to the changing weather conditions. This also applies to the wind conditions at the respective installation site. For example, gusts of wind of a strength not to be underestimated can occur in the corners of houses and balconies or courtyards, which are considered to be rather protected.

Since our palm crowns are based on a plug system for the palm fronds (see assembly instructions) and a palm trunk that is hollow on the inside for weight reasons, our palms resist the local wind conditions only to a limited extent on the outside. The relatively low weight, even when using a plant pot filled with sand, does not withstand storms - which, as is well known, can uproot even living trees.

As a result, the artificial palm tree falls over. The palm fronds usually do not find the gravity-induced impact very pleasant and they like to hurt themselves, i.e. the tips fray out and in the worst case the fronds break through. In addition, the entire crown (hard foam ball with the palm fronds) can simply break off in stronger winds.

The palm fronds themselves also come loose from the hard foam ball attached to the tip of the trunk in strong or persistent winds. Through which they are again exposed to the gravity-conditioned landing with the above described consequences. With weak winds - often coming from the same direction - we also observed that the palm crown starts to rotate. In this easy to solve case, the palm crown has to be re-draped regularly.

You would like to use our palm trees outdoors anyway and at your own risk - What can you do?

General

In winter, decorative palms should have their sheltered place indoors, just like real, non-hardy plants. Unlike real palms, which have to be brought in in winter, they do not necessarily need a special location for our decorative palms. Our palms are easy to dismantle and fold up again and can be stored in a dry room to save space. In spring you simply put them back up again.

Sun

Against fading caused by UV radiation, we are currently testing the long-term effect of UV protection spray for our palm branches. As soon as we have found the right variant, we will add the appropriate one to our product range. Just have a look at our page again.

Until then, the only thing left to do is to regularly exchange palm fronds that have turned yellow for new ones. All palm leaves can be re-ordered at any time in the desired / required quantity at a reasonable price. At particularly sunny locations we calculate with an annual exchange.  In the worst case after only one season. At shady locations we calculate with an exchange after about two years.

Rain and Wind

In order to keep wear and tear or damage caused by rain and wind as low as possible, we also offer our hard foam balls as palm heads with wire reinforcement. Here the hard foam ball is additionally reinforced with a wire mesh around the outside. This means that the hard foam ball itself does not break as quickly and the palm fronds are anchored more firmly by the wire mesh. The use of the hard foam ball reinforced with wire mesh is also suitable for frequent assembly and disassembly of the artificial palms, as the hard foam ball is subject to less wear.
