The Rigid Foam Ball (ø 15cm)
For the heads of our artificial palm trees we use balls made of a compostable hard foam.
After sharpening the stem, the palm fronds are simply inserted into the ball according to a certain pattern. Pre-drilling holes is not necessary with these special plug-in foam balls.
The spheres themselves are attached to the tubes prepared for this purpose with strong plastic straps before being cut. This fastening with PVC bands is very stable and gives the palm head the necessary hold. We would be happy to explain to you how you can carry out this production step yourself.
To conceal the ball ideally, we use coconut fibre, which we also use for our trunks. After inserting the palm fronds, small pieces of coconut fibre are simply inserted between the fronds, thus effectively concealing the ball.
Of course the hard foam balls are not only suitable for palm trees, but also for many other, own decoration purposes due to their hardness. Our balls are a special casting and cannot be compared with the rather soft foam from florists.
We deliver the foam balls including the fixing straps.
You will need a standard stapling tool, alternatively you can also work with small screws.
- Pull the coconut fibre at the top of the palm trunk down slightly until the attachment on the plastic is exposed. Then remove the old PVC bands if necessary. Using the same criteria as for the previous attachment, first apply only one end of each band with the tacker so that they can finally run over the ball again, crosswise.
- After the ball has been placed on the log, please tension the straps as tightly as possible before you fix the two loose ends of the straps to the log with a tacker. It is better for two people to do this together, so that one person can pull/hold the straps tightly over the ball while the second person can tack the two ends of the PVC straps with the tacker. To prevent the tapes from sliding, tack 2 x into the crossing point at the top and 1 x into each of the tapes as shown.
- Finally, when pricking the palm fronds, make sure that the fronds are well sharpened with the cutter knife and that you do not prick the bands or damage them when pricking them. The first 4-5 fronds are inserted as steeply/vertically as possible. Now go "snail-wise" around when piercing the fronds and use the complete ball when piercing (not only the upper half). That's it!
